Easter 2022 in Germany

Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

(traditional Easter greetings in Ukraine)

The Ukrainian people always respect their traditions, no matter how far they are from their homeland. Many Ukrainians who were forced to find themselves in Germany started baking Easter cakes ("paska") before Easter, as they usually do at home. Every housewife has her own family recipe, which is passed down from generation to generation. Despite the fact that many ingredients from the recipes and some inventory had to be replaced by German counterparts, the main one was added to each Easter cake - love for the Motherland.

The Ukrainian Community NRW / Ukrainische Gemeinde Nordrhein-Westfalen organized a trip to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Krefeld to make the holiday full. In one yard of the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary there were traditional Easter cakes from Kharkiv, Lviv, Rivne, Ternopil, Odessa, Zhytomyr, Kyiv and many other cities.

Everyone who joined this tradition had the opportunity to consecrate Easter baskets and listen to the holiday service, which was held in two languages: Ukrainian and German.

Our community continues to plan similar events that support folk traditions, so that every Ukrainian who is far from home can feel himself like in native circle.
